Networking is a key activity to keep your business and/or career progressing! Knowing who to seek advice from or when to provide a helping hand can take you to the next level. They say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know. So, how do you actively network?
It can be overwhelming when you first start creating your network. Where and how do you network? Check out these four starting points.

MeetUp for meeting new industry professionals
Meetup is an online service you and other professionals can make use of to organize online groups that host events for people with a collective interest in trades (such as marketing or content creation) or hobbies (such as curating Instagram feeds). This is a great place to find friendly groups of people that come together on a regular basis to share one particular topic of interest.
Here you can search for your interest, say ‘advertising’ and you will find several gatherings where you might want to meet and greet fellow advertising professionals.
LinkedIn for finding industry experts
LinkedIn is the online destination to make yourself known and find those industry peers and network with them. You can search across a multitude of elements; such as location, profession, job title, and existing connections.
Make sure you have set up your profile correctly and start connecting with fellow marketing, content, and advertising professionals. You can send connection requests to anyone around the globe on the LinkedIn platform. Make sure you introduce yourself, rather than sending seemingly random requests.
Eventbrite for networking
Eventbrite is a U.S.-based event website where people and organizations can list and sell tickets to their functions. This is a great place to find local networking events happening nearby that may be of interest.
You can search for ‘marketing’ or other professional fields and a host of potential functions for you to hand out your business cards will appear. You can filter for free or paid events to help your budget. Perhaps that interesting Facebook workshop happening a few blocks away?
Professional industry associations to get recognised
Industry associations are a great way to add credibility to your name and reputation. There is a vast array of membership organizations to join that focus on particular specialist knowledge and job areas. You can get started by viewing these marketing and advertising industry associations.
